Hofkapelle München is widely considered to be the leading early music ensemble in Southern Germany. Since its restoration in 2009, under the artistic direction of violinist and conductor Rüdiger Lotter, Hofkapelle München has established an international reputation. According to Süddeutsche Zeitung (2013), the ensemble’s play is remarkable especially for the “wonderful concentration and obvious pleasure they take form playing”.
Among the artists who have made guest appearances with the Hofkapelle München are Reinhard Goebel, Alessandro de Marchi, Dorothee Oberlinger, Hille Perl, Christiane Karg, and Lawrence Zazzo. The orchestra also regularly performs with choirs such as Tölzer Knabenchor and the Bavarian Radio Choir.
In 2012, the orchestra received the German Record Critics’ Award for their CD “Hasse Reloaded”, recorded in collaboration with the countertenor Valer Sabadus. The following recording project of the “Six Brandenburg Concertos” (2013) also received critical acclaim. 2014 saw the release of “Le Belle Immagini”, a CD recorded in collaboration with Valer Sabadus and Alessandro de Marchi as conductor which was awarded the “Echo Klassik” award in 2015. In 2015 the ensemble recorded a new CD entitled “Angel, Devil, Priest” with violin concertos of Locatelli, Leclair, and Vivaldi on which the solo parts are played alternately by the French-Armenian violinist Chouchane Siranossian and Rüdiger Lotter.
