SUMMER FESTIVITIES OF EARLY MUSIC
FAMILIA | 17 July – 5 August 2025
The 26th edition of the international music festival
Dear friends and lovers of early music,
what does family mean to us? A safe haven, a blood bond, a lifelong challenge...? In any case, it can certainly be seen as an inexhaustible source of artistic inspiration – sometimes glorified, sometimes cursed. How clear and deep are the imprints of family relationships in the music of past centuries?
We asked ourselves these questions when preparing the dramaturgy of the 26th edition of the Summer Festivities of Early Music. The programmes will explore familial ties that influenced and shaped the music of historical stylistic periods from the Middle Ages to the High Baroque. They will focus on the legacies of selected musical and printing dynasties, as the love of music and the knowledge of related crafts were often passed down from generation to generation. Families played an irreplaceable role as patrons, and monastic communities also represented families of sorts. Last but not least, a number of important rituals take place within the family – and this phenomenon has logically been reflected in musical culture, in both artificial and folk traditions.
You can look forward to gems from music archives, unusual musical instruments, unbridled musicality, and the captivating musical creativity of the invited artists.
