MUSAE
The 24th edition of the international music festival Summer Festivities of Early Music will be ruled by the MUSES – the noble, beautiful and omniscient daughters of Zeus, who, with their famous kiss on the forehead, inspire artists with ideas and creative vigour. Inspiration from ancient mythological stories is extremely important for the music of the Renaissance and Baroque periods. The “magic seven” festival concerts will therefore present a variety of inspiration from the goddesses of the performing arts and, more broadly, from Greek mythology in the works of European composers of the 16th to 18th centuries. In the concerts, we will encounter, for example, Polyhymnia, Erato, Terpsichore, Urania and Euterpe, as well as the god Apollo and the mythical singer Orpheus. And we will go all the way to Parnassus itself!
During the holiday season in Prague, the Summer Festivities of Early Music bring to life the musical styles of historical periods in imaginative and fresh contexts. It is the unmistakable atmosphere of Prague’s palaces, churches and monasteries that gives the top-flight artistic performances an extremely authentic character. Josefína Knoblochová, the festival’s director, selected and made recommendations from a wide range of world ensembles and early music performers. Having accepted the festival’s invitation and been “kissed by the muse”, they will come to Prague to showcase their art and delight the ears and eyes of the audience.
