Philippe-Nicolas Martin (France) La Discorde
After graduating from the Conservatoires of Marseille and Aix-en-Provence, Philippe-Nicolas Martin obtained a Master’s Degree in Musicology. In 2009 he was admitted at the CNIPAL in Marseille (postgraduate opera training centre) where he sang Gasparo in Donizetti’s Rita, and Peter in Humperdinck’s Hänsel und Gretel.
In the past few seasons, he sang Guglielmo from Cosí fan tutte (Bulgaria), Belcore in L’Elisir d’Amore (Malta), Belus / Un Guerrier in Le Temple de la Gloire by Rameau (San Francisco), Taddeo in L'Italiana in Algeri, Don Fernando in Fidelio and Marullo in Rigoletto (Rennes), Papageno in Die Zauberflöte and Il Commissario Imperiale / Il Principe Yamadori in Madama Butterfly (Open-air Opera Festival), Le Second Commissaire and Le Geôlier in Poulenc’s Dialogues des Carmélites (Angers and Nantes), Der Heerrufer des Königs in Wagner’s Lohengrin (Angers, Nantes and Saint-Etienne), Moralès in Carmen (Metz, Avignon and Nancy), L’Horloge and Le Chat in Ravel’s L’Enfant et les Sortilèges (Aix-en-Provence, later touring in Bahrain), Jupiter in Rameau’s Platée (Budapest), Sciarrone in Puccini’s Tosca (Toulon), The Forester in The Cunning Little Vixen (a French tour), and Thésée in La Belle Mère Amoureuse.
On concert stage, Philippe-Nicolas Martin has appeared in Brahms’s Deutsches Requiem, Fauré’s Requiem, Campra’s Requiem, Henri Sauguet’s cantata L’Oiseau a vu tout cela, Berlioz’s Messe Solennelle, Orff’s Carmina Burana, Beethoven’s 9th Symphony, Purcell’s The Fairy Queen, Méhul’s Uthal, Saint-Saëns’s Proserpine, Salieri’s Les Horaces and Rameau’s Naïs.
