Annotation

A number of excellent composers and performers who subsequently became famous across Europe came from the sunny city of Naples. Not for nothing was the city under Vesuvius nicknamed “the conservatory of Europe”… The virtuosity of Neapolitan musicians directly influenced the stylistic refinement of instrumental forms, such as solo and chamber sonatas and sinfonias. The Talenti Vulcanici ensemble, who have their home in the southern Italian metropolis, will present, under the artistic direction of harpsichordist Stefano Demicheli, the works of Neapolitan natives and 18th-century composers working there to the Prague audience.

Brilliant works by Francesco Durante and Nicola Fiorenza, who contributed to the fame of the Neapolitan conservatories, will be presented, along with virtuoso violin pieces by the London-based Nicola Matteis, solo harpsichord sonatas by Domenico Scarlatti and trio sonatas by Angelo Ragazzi, whose career culminated in Vienna. One Neapolitan-style musical delicacy after another will fill the beautiful painted hall of Troja Chateau, a true gem of Italian artistic style on the banks of the Vltava River.

Talenti Vulcanici

The Talenti Vulcanici ensemble was founded in 2011, drawing on the 20 years of experience of the Fondazione Pietà de’ Turchini, a pioneer in introducing Neapolitan audiences to mostly unknown or forgotten musical repertoires performed by renowned artists from across Europe.   The ensemble is regularly involved in the concert seasons of the Fondazione Pietà de’ Turchini in Naples but has also managed to attract the interest of many national and international festivals and institutions by taking part in their programmes, for example, Oude Muziek Utrecht, the Alessandro Stradella Baroque Festival, the Stockholm Early Music Festival and others.   In 2019, Talenti Vulcanici was awarded the XXXIX Franco Abbiati Music Critics Prize in the category the Best Musical Initiative of the Year. Since 2021, its audiovisual productions have been broadcast on the national and international digital platforms RaiPlay and Stingray Classica, the TV channels Rai 5 and Sky Classica HD, and the radio channel Rai Radio 3.

Stefano Demicheli

harpsichord, artistic director

Born in Turin, Stefano Demicheli graduated in organ, organ composition and harpsichord. He began studying harpsichord under Ottavio Dantone, and then continued at the Conservatorio della Svizzera Italiana in Lugano, Switzerland. His meeting with harpsichordists Lars Ulrik Mortensen and Emilia Fadini was decisive for his education.   He has collaborated as a soloist and basso continuo performer with numerous early music ensembles (Accademia Bizantina, Il Giardino Armonico, Freiburger Barockorchester, Concerto Köln, I Barocchisti) and regularly gives recitals as a partner of instrumentalists and singers. His concert activities have led him to perform regularly in the most important concert halls and theatres throughout Europe as part of prestigious festivals.   He is the founder and director of Dolce & Tempesta, an ensemble that brings together some of Italy’s most experienced musicians specialising in the performance of early music.
