Annotation
In the middle of July, the Chateau of Troja will likely soak up so much sun that it will long for shady gardens, green gardens, Irish gardens... The group A nocte temporis will draw us into their midst with a soothing programme of old Irish songs, ballads and dances that will evoke the entertainments of Dublin’s aristocratic courts and castles.
This remarkable repertoire will be brought to us by an ensemble whose hallmark is a true passion for traditional Irish music: the outstanding tenor Reinoud Van Mechelen, the flautist Anna Besson, who succumbed to the Irish flute long before she first picked up baroque flute, or the renowned harpist Sarah Louise Ridy, who plays the beautiful Celtic harp.
The very titles of the songs evoke their delightful qualities – An Buachaillin Bàn or Eileanoir a Rùn (Eleanor, my secret love)… According to Irish newspapers of the period George Frideric Handel had declared enviously that he would rather have written the folk ballad Ailen Aroon than everything else he had composed up to that point...
In case of bad weather, the concert will be held instead in the Imperial Hall of Troja Castle.

Reinoud Van Mechelen
tenor, artistic direction
Reinoud Van Mechelen completed his vocal studies at the Conservatoire Royal in Brussels in 2012.
In 2017, he was awarded the prestigious Caecilia Prize as Young Musician of the Year from the Belgian music press.
In 2011, he was a member of William Christie´s and Paul Agnew´s Jardin des Voix and subsequently became a regular soloist of Les Arts Florissants ensemble. Many renowned ensembles such as the Collegium Vocale Gent, Le Concert Spirituel, Les Talens Lyriques, Le Poème Harmonique, and numerous others, secured his cooperation.
His first solo album entitled “Erbarme Dich” (arias by J. S. Bach) was released by the Alpha Classics label in 2016, unanimously acclaimed by the press and receiving several prizes.
Meanwhile, three further albums with the A nocte temporis ensemble have been released by the Alpha Classics label: “Clérambault, cantates françaises” (2018, Diapason d´Or), "The Dubhlinn Gardens" (2019) and “Dumesny, haute-contre de Lully” (2019).

A nocte temporis
After several years of activity as a soloist, Reinoud Van Mechelen founded his own ensemble in 2016. His goal is to emotionally reach as large an audience as possible with historically informed music.
The first two CDs (“Erbarme dich” – arias of J. S. Bach for tenor and flute, 2016, and “Clérambault, cantates françaises”, 2018, the Alpha Classics label) were reviewed with praise and received several prizes (such as CHOC de l’Année of Classica, five Diapasons, a Diapason d’Or and a Caecilia prize for best recording)./p>
After a tour with the Bach programme in 2017, the ensemble continued its promising journey in 2018 and was invited to perform by prestigious venues such as the Opéra de Lille, the Festival Radio France (Montpellier), the MA Festival (Bruges), the BOZAR (Brussels), the Château de Versailles and the AMUZ (Antwerp).
In February 2019, the third album, “The Dubhlinn Gardens”, was released. “Dumesny – haute contre de Lully”, released in November 2019, is already the fourth collaboration with the Alpha Classics label.
