Troja Chateau, garden
U Trojského zámku 1, Praha 7
Troja Chateau was built between 1679 and 1685 according to the designs of Jean Baptiste Mathey as a summerhouse of the noble family of Sterberks. The interior decorations were predominantly inspired by Ancient mythology. The garden staicase is decorated by statuary representing the war of gods with Titans from which derives the name of the chateau.
The ceiling and walls of the Main Hall are decorated with frescoes depicting the victory of the Habsburgs over the Turks in the battle of Vienna. This narrative element makes the hall especially well suited for the performance of 17th-century music.
